Statements from Educational Leaders

“Mr. Logan is a dedicated and collaborative educator whose contributions enrich both the student experience and the broader school community. His reliability and team-oriented mindset make him a valued colleague, and he consistently takes initiative to lead schoolwide events, including the annual KIPP Comienza Art Show and KIPP SoCal’s MOKA exhibition. These events highlight his creativity and his commitment to elevating student voice and celebrating achievement.

In the classroom, Mr. Logan’s strength lies in the strong relationships he builds with students. He cultivates a positive, relationship-centered environment where students feel seen, supported, and appropriately challenged. He provides thoughtful, consistent feedback on both behavior and academic performance, helping students internalize expectations while developing ownership of their learning. His growing ability to guide students through productive struggle strengthens their problem-solving skills and builds resilience. Through his steady presence and warm support, even reluctant learners are drawn into meaningful artistic expression.”

“Throughout his time at Comienza, Charles Logan has become so much more than an Art Teacher to our students and community. As our Art Teacher and Department Lead, Charles brings creativity, joy, vision, and heart into everything he does. He creates opportunities for students to express themselves, build confidence, and experience the power of art in meaningful and authentic ways.

Charles has also played a huge role in shaping the culture and joy of our school community. From leading our Friday Dance Parties to organizing beautiful Art Shows that celebrate student voice and talent, he consistently creates experiences that bring our community together and make students feel seen, valued, and celebrated. Students absolutely light up in his presence, and it is clear how deeply he cares for them and their growth. As a department lead and team member, Charles is collaborative, reflective, and always willing to step in wherever needed to support students, staff, and the school's overall vision. He leads with both excellence and humility, constantly thinking about how to make learning more engaging, inclusive, and joyful for kids.

Charles is truly an asset to Comienza. His impact extends far beyond the art classroom, and our school community is stronger because of his leadership, creativity, and commitment to students. I am excited to continue watching him grow and thrive as an educator and leader.”

“ I’ve always looked up to Mr.Logan since I met him in 6th grade, all the way through now as I make my way through university.  It is his creativity, strength, vulnerability, wisdom, and who he is as a teacher and a person who has helped inspire me as an artist and as a student throughout my academic career.

I’ve always taken a liking to visual arts, and it was when I was in Mr.Logan’s class that I learned that art was so much more than technique and instructions; it’s also identity and passion and the beauty you make it to be.

I feel so lucky and grateful for the experience we had in the city (in middle school?). I’ve been going to smaller charter schools my whole life, and the impactful teacher-student relationships I’ve had continue to stick with me to this day. It was so hard being a teenager for me, and everything feels so new and intense all at once. The way Mr.Logan was able to be there for me and listen inspired me to always keep creating. Despite outside pressures, Mr. Logan has been a constant, supportive figure who continues to openly express care in validating ways. His unique kindness and character will stay with me for the rest of my life, academic and otherwise.”

“Mr. Logan was my middle school art teacher and mentor. What started as a 6th-grade class exploring personal voice and creativity became a nurturing environment that fostered curiosity and passion. Mr. Logan went from teacher to cheerleader and coach in many aspects of my life, which still makes me think fondly of my middle school years.

He was always open to exploring new ideas and projects. He was also incredibly understanding and supportive when my reading bug was sparked as an English learner, and I could not put a book down, regardless of the time of day. He would always ask about the stories I was reading and help me express them visually for different classes. It really helped me learn and understand when everything was still a bit new.

Because of his help, I was able to test out of the English as a Second Language program by the end of 6th grade and be enrolled in advanced English courses by 8th grade, writing essays about my life stories that I am still proud of. I had come to the United States at the age of 10 without a lick of English or understanding of the customs. Less than three years later—boom I felt almost entirely adjusted.

Mr. Logan also fostered my playful and exploratory side by taking my push-up challenges seriously on boring field trips and dealing with my hide-and-seek of his belongings around the classroom. His classroom was always a safe space for me, and by the end of 8th grade, I spent more time reading there than anywhere else in the school.

After middle school, I went to an experimental hybrid high school and took community college courses concurrently. I then moved to Ohio to study biochemistry and traveled a bit afterward. I have now paused to teach scuba diving in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, working in a French boutique where I am learning to navigate two more languages and cultures.

I look back at my time as Mr. Logan’s student with gratitude and appreciation for the daily moments that only amount to greatness when one looks back.”

“When I think back about my path as an artist and designer, I realize I’d be in a very different spot without Mr. Logan. I knew from a young age that I wanted to be an Automotive Designer, and while he may not have known the ins and outs of that profession, Mr. Logan was still able to adapt to my needs and wants as a young designer.  Not only did he train my creative mind and eye, but he also showed me the importance of integrity and humility in both design and all other aspects of life. Taking his class was one of the clear highlights of my time in middle school, and to this day, I’ll hear his voice in the back of my mind telling me to add more value to my sketches. He has been an integral part of my journey to becoming an Automotive Designer. “

“ Mr. Logan is the kind of teacher who leaves a lasting mark, not just on report cards or portfolios, but on the people his students become. As both my art teacher for two years and my advisor for another, he played a huge role in shaping how I see creativity, effort, and even myself.

What made him stand out was how deeply he cared about every single student. He didn’t just teach art; he paid attention to who we were as individuals. He had a way of recognizing potential, even when we couldn’t see it ourselves. And when he saw it, he didn’t let it sit quietly; he pushed us. I know he did that for me. I was stubborn and often frustrated, especially because I believed art had to be perfect. If it wasn’t, I didn’t want to do it at all.

But Mr. Logan challenged that mindset. He reminded us, again and again, that art isn’t about perfection, it’s about passion, effort, and honesty. He didn’t want flawless work; he wanted to see that we cared. That message stuck with me far beyond the classroom.

Even though it’s been over ten years since I was his student, the lessons he taught still matter in my life today. The memories we created, the encouragement he gave, and the patience he showed are things I’ll always carry with me. Teachers like Mr. Logan don’t just teach subjects; they influence lives. And he truly is one of those influential teachers I’ll never forget.”

“My middle school homeroom and art teacher, Mr. Logan, left an impression on me that I still carry with me today. His classroom was more than just a place to learn. It was a safe space where I always felt welcome, whether I needed genuine advice or simply someone who would listen without judgment. He had a rare gift for making me feel seen and valued, and through that, he gave me confidence in myself that I hadn't had before. What stood out most was the way he encouraged me to speak my mind, even when my opinion was the unpopular one, even when no one else in the room agreed with me. He never let me shrink myself just to avoid judgment or fit in with the crowd. Because of Mr. Logan, I learned that my voice had worth and that staying true to what I genuinely believed was always more important than taking the easy road of just going along with everyone else. That lesson has followed me far beyond middle school, and I'm grateful for it every day.”
